Recently Blockchain for Good put on the very first official panel event. The title was Is Blockchain Tech Colonizing, How to Be Mindful Now & in the Future.

I knew this would be a controversial subject, but I also feel strongly that we need to discuss the issues of today’s modern age head on and without trying to protect peoples delicate egos.

To kick off this event, our panel held a private dinner with the speakers. The conversation was so tough that two people left in a huff and without saying goodbye to the rest of the group.

What we learned from all of this is how to remain in the moment with an open heart and mind to have this discussion in a meaningful way.

Daisy Ozim kicked the conversation off with a comprehensive talk about what colonization is, what behaviors or actions could be identified as colonizing, and a context as to why we were having the conversation.

As a result of this event, we’ll be putting out a 1-pager with ways to be mindful of why you’re building, who your building for, and ways to make sure you’re actually serving the people you think you are, rather than opportunistically being extractive or taking something from someone else based on your power position.

As technology becomes more ubiquitous and almost invisible, we must find ways to program the future with goodness, prosperity for all, and the sort of mindfulness that takes an active approach.

A special thanks to heycoral.com, Mevo, and SAP.io for sponsoring this event.

Blockchain for Good is putting together a Blockchain Code of Ethics (B.C.O.E.), which will be a collaborative effort of leaders in the blockchain community and beyond to create a sort of declaration of independence (or interdependence as it may be) to guide, direct, and establish a collective vision for the future of humanity.

Our technology partner for this is Ethelo.org.
